Have you checked out the medal count for this summer Olympics? The U.S., Russia, and China lead of course (they are some of the world's most populous countries). But, then you go down the list and find Ethiopa has six medals, Norway has five, the Bahamas has one. A little further down you see the world's second most populous country, India, with one (1) medal.
One medal? We'd expect more from a great country like India. I'd love to hear from someone why they think this is the case. Isn't there much room in India to workout (given the population density there)? Is it a religious thing? What about China's #2 positioning? Whatever the reasoning, India better hire a PR rep to improve its standings in the sports world (especially via "internal communications" to its own citizens...so they aspire toward the great Games going forward).

I consider myself versed on India and know that there isn't a lot of room in India to work out as easily as others (given the population density there).

And actually, my girlfriend is from India. We watched "Bend it Like Beckham" just last weekend and it reminded of us the strong Indian soccer team...in Britain. But we're rooting for India proper this time around. Or, atleast we're hoping that some Indian government officials will see this post and hire us to do some PR for them!

Right... The Real thing here is Absolute LACK OF INTEREST FROM CONCERNED OFFICIALS. Beleive me - the only thing they care about is Shitty Cricket... NO OTHER SPORT!
Wish the governement in this country understood all this. But just imagine - They were Experimenting with the Hockey Team [The National Sport of India] a Week Before going for olympics...
On a Sidenote - I would not consider what you have posted as Insulting! I am happy that someone actually cared about Tallying the Medals of India with other countries [BTW I skipped seeing the Onlymics at all - I knew what the outcome was going to be! :D ]
